Gracie Designs

Is this not the most brilliant idea??? Who wants to freeze their fingers while drowning their sorrows in a pint of Chunky Monkey. Your heart already hurts why make your fingers hurt too? Well fear no more...the lovely and talented Kelli has created just the thing for you! You can get these babies here at Persimmons now for a measly $8!!! She makes the greatest checkbook covers, little business card holders and wallets too. Not going to be in Manitowoc anytime soon? No need to fret just go to Graciedesigns on etsy and shop there!

plastic lid gnome?

So I know I have posted like 32 (ok only 2 this is 3) times today but I really need to compose a letter to the unknown individual...or group?...who steals all my lids for my plastic storage containers. I made a gigantic batch of pea soup today and went to put it in the containers to store in the freezer and alas no lids so here it goes...

Dear Lid Stealer,

I know plastic lids are a thing of beauty... my husband is after all a plastic engineer and our livelyhood depends on plastic... but why do you have to steal my lids? I know you come and take them because why would I have all these containers and no lids? It makes no sense. Now we may be forced to eat pea soup for days and we all know what happens when you eat too much pea soup. Please don't subject our family to that smelly future and return them.

Thank you kindly,
Kim

I went down to get my camera

It's cold.

It is about -40 with the windchill so Molly and I are just chillin (literally... it is cold I have 3 pairs of socks on) at home. I finished her mural and would take a picture but the camera is downstairs in the store and I really don't want to go get it.
So I hope you don't come out in the cold to shop today because I won't be there.

I will be dreaming of my summer garden and warm weather.

Stuck Behind the Glass sneaky peaky.

So my buddy David is going to be doing a little exhibit at Stumpjack of my little jar assemblages called Stuck Behind The Glass. I take a ton of silly stuff mix it all up and make these little jars o fun. This is the first one I made ...especially for David. I know he has a deep love for clowns (or not). I think I have to make about 25 of them so 1 down 24ish to go! The show will start with a little opening on March 29th at the best coffee shop in all the land.

All around the country.

I found a bunch of the coolest hankies I have ever found today at my favorite place. I have listed a few in my etsy store and have a few more here for only $6! They would make really cool pillows or even framed to show your love for the states. Besides Iowa and Oregon I have California, Oklahoma, Montana, Missouri, Michigan, Illinois, Idaho, The Dakotas, and New Mexico. I checked em out on ickbay and a few were selling for big bucks! I think it would just be a super fun collection. I probably am so in like with them because I used to collect the souvenir glasses and they remind me of those?

My lightbox

So I made the lightbox I spoke of in the previous post and besides needing a blue tint bulb it works pretty darn good. Just listed this in my etsy shop. I will play with backrounds and colors but it makes taking those pictures so much easier. I strongly advise anyone who is taking product shots to go check out that tutorial!

Vintage images.

Today I got copies made of a few of my favorite children images to use in artwork. I could hoard all of them like I like to do but I am sharing them with you! You can get them for only $1.50 a sheet! These aren't cheap copies either they are color copies so the sepia tones in some of the pictures is there and once you use them in your artwork it will be very hard for anyone to know they are not the original images!
I also made a light box for taking product pictures. I found a great tutorial here that is so easy and super cheap! Check it out!

A fun weekend with the ladies.

I taught a very fun workshop at the Rahr West Museum this weekend...upcycled art bracelets. I fully intended to come back after my two morning classes and open the store but had way too much fun and decided to stay and participate in the afternoon classes. This is me, Barb the museums new and very exciting director and my bff Heather who also taught a class. It was a blast and a nice way to spend a day away from the shop. We ended the day with a drink at a Tony's ... a local pizza joint. It was a great time and I thank the Rahr for asking me to be a part of it! I really look forward to next year!

My new motto....

My new motto...I can't organize so I disguise.
Which is helpful when my work area looks like this. My area will always look like that and that is just reality but when I don't want to look at it curtains sure are nice!

Lost in a sea of fantastic blogs today.

Ok got to the shop at noon today and decided after checking my email I would of course check out the etc forum on etsy. Well I try to post in the daily blog thread and today I decided to really check out the other blogs from the talented and very funny etsians that blog. Ok it is 2 now and I have done nothing but read about other peoples Master Cleanse experiences and Black Toyota hate. Oh how I love blogs.
Oh this is a new pendant I listed on etsy. Probably my favorite product picture I have ever taken.

DIY iron on applique kits!

So I created two designs for my DIY iron on applique kits and I think they are adorable. I like to look through old craft books and find these cute animals. The kits come with a test strip, instructions and the very easy to apply appliques. So far I just have these two cuties but many more will follow. They are only $6 too. You can just iron them on or make them totally unique with some detail embroidery. Fun stuff here folks.

Fabric galore in the etsy store.

Pins, barettes or cuffs?

I just want to know what you all think? I made these little beauties using all recycled materials...old hats, sewing notions, thread, buttons and anything else I find to throw in them...and just can't decide on what they should be. Let me know and you can win one of them! I will be doing a little poll and randomly pick one person who comments on this post with your suggestion to be the proud owner and wearer of one of these very victorian inspired whatevers. I will really pick by closing my eyes and pointing. Contest ends on Wednesday so leave your suggestion now!

Woo hooo...I had 3 etsy sales today!!!

I was very surprised to see I had a few etsy sales today. I don't really sell a lot on there but have been meaning to devote more time and energy to listing more regularly...well nothing like 3 sales to kick you in the butt to get going! I listed like a fool today and am going to try real hard to list every day! Someone is going to wear this cool pendant....

and I am happy about that.

I ♥ you etsy.

I am an organizing fool...

I have just been organizing the day away and it feels good. I guess it is my new years resolution...even though I hate those things...and I really am going to try super hard to stick to it. I have decided that every night before bed I am going to make a to do list for the following day. This is going to be a very busy year for me and I just need to stay on top of it all. I went through and listed all the major events in 2008 and set art nights through July. I have a few fun things in mind for this year the soonest being a Lonely Hearts Club on Valentines Day. I want to have a party for all those lonely people...I am not lonely but don't really care too much for Valentines Day. We will all bring a handmade gift and exchange them while eating cookies and drinking coffee. Sounds like fun doesn't it? I bet you wish you were single now just so you could come. Anyhow more to come soon as I figure more out!
Oh yeah this is a butterfly baby........

Happy New Year!!!

We finally decided to paint Molly's room like we promised her. It will take me a long time but this is the first part. She is slightly obsessed with mermaids right now so this is the most important part of the whole room. I drew the rest in chalk and will fill it in when I get a chance. It is so much fun painting on walls. I did work on a set for a play once but it was different this feels a little sassy. I could do this for a living...but won't.

We had a really good time at our Art and About new years bash at the lovely Heather's house. I have a lot of pictures but we take such sassy pictures this one was the most tame. Jo brought me a bunch of little silly things and for some reason we decided they would make nice nipple ornaments????!!!! Dorks. I love these people we have such goofy crazy fun together.
