Kate and Rit ROCK!

Kate's skull beads are so much fun! We had breakfast yesterday morning at Warren's a quaint little greasy spoon just a few blocks from here. It was so nice to start the day with a good friend and a tasty meal. So I checked out Kate's blog just now and was blown away by her partner Rit's photographs. The girl is so seriously talented and has no idea. Please go look and leave a comment for Rit so she gets some confidence and brings those pictures into Persimmons!!!!! The color white is at the top but check out a few posts earlier for the color blue. Fantastic composition! What a talented little couple!

My little garden.

My little veggie and herb garden. I totally broke the rules and planted it early. I live about 3 blocks from Lake Michigan so it can still get pretty cold here. The little garden is very protected so I thought I would take a chance and so far so good. I planted it over a week ago and everything is growing along well. I put the herbs in pots so I can put them in my very sunny pantry in the winter and have fresh herbs all year! It is so nice to have the herbs to cook with. I planted chives, oregano, thyme, sage, lavender, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and a few little daisy like flowers for a little color. The steps to our apartment are right there so I am hoping the cucumbers will vine on the railing! It's my first attempt at veggies and I can't wait to enjoy the fruits (or veggies) of my labor.

Good things are coming my way!

Look at this freaking adorable t shirt! It says I drink from the fountain of youth. I love all the tshirts that Amy makes. I sell them in the store or you can get them in her etsy shop. They are so much fun and priced so right!

I had a prize in my door yesterday from a customer. I had to close in the morning to run my stuff to the accountant. My taxes are almost done!!!! Back to the prize... it was a very cool wood cigar box filled with very old Christmas cards, a Victorian collar, a swizzle stick from the Manitowoc Hotel, a little tube of old shaving cream, and some old garter belt straps. I was racking my brain trying to figure out who could have possibly when the phone rang. It was a nice lady who orders some of my fun chalkboards every once in a while. She just wanted to let me know it was her who dropped the things off because she thought I would appreciate them more than anyone else. So nice of her to think of me. Then I got a call this morning from another customer who just cleaned her dad's house out and they had a bunch of old maps she was wondering if I wanted them for free! Good things are just happening all over the place for me right now! It's kind of nice.

My fuzzy baby.

So here's my favorite fuzzy girl. I still don't have a camera so pictures of my peeps will have to do.

I got a few great jars of vintage buttons today. I love love love going through those old jars and there were a couple of real beauties. I also got a great old metal top table for only $5! It is already feeling right at home in the store. I like those great cheap finds!

I just ordered clear bags so I can start listing ephemera packs on etsy soon. I have so very much stuff and I really need to share it with everyone...so watch my etsy store for good things to come!

My favorite little girl in the whole wide world!

A silly picture of my little sweetie.
I have really been enjoying her lately. I think 2 is so much fun.
I will not be able to post new pictures for a little while now because I don't have a camera that works with the computer so the picture a day will have to wait for just a short time. Hopefully we will get a new camera very soon! My husband really wants the Canon SLR? I just want a camera that I can use with the computer so I let him take care of the research and buying.
The Art Tour this weekend went really well. Doug Musial came and did some glass demos in the backyard and my friend Jo came and painted one of the chairs she will be donating for the chair auction. There were a lot of new customers that I have never met before so that is always good. A few people said they just never knew what was in the store so they never stopped in. That sparked a conversation between Glenn (my love) and I over a little fire and wine last night that resulted in a great new slogan for Manitowoc....
Don't be afraid to explore, you'll find we have so much more than the nation's largest kitchen store.
If you live here you will get it and for those of you who don't we just had our anchor store close downtown and it was "the nations largest kitchen store". It was kind of the reason a lot of people stopped in town before and now they are exploring the rest of the shops and finding out that we have a nice selection of fun little unique shops here.

Clone Me

Here is a little painting I did called "seafloor". I intend on painting my girls walls like this someday. I bought the base coat but that is the easy part. I need to clone myself so I can get everything I need to get done done! Oh wishful thinking.

I got the button machine today! How fun! I made a few silly ones but they aren't great because I'm still figuring out the secrets. It is just a hand one and it will take me a few times to get used to it! I took the picture on top of a great article that was in the paper for the Spring Art Tour this weekend. That's me in the background. Didn't plan that I just noticed it when I downloaded the picture.

Off to make more buttons!

Sputnikfest

So I had to do a presentation of Sputnikfest for the tourism breakfast here in Manitowoc this morning. It was the first time I have given a speech since high school ... which was many many years ago. I was nervous as hell but got through it pretty well. Sputnikfest is a fantastic festival being planned for September 5 & 6 2008 to commemorate a chunk of Sputnik 4 falling to earth and landing in the middle of 8th street, right up the street from my store actually. We are having a retro themed festival set in the 1960's featuring a juried art fair, great food, rocking music, tons of space themed family fun and of course beer...we are in Wisconsin after all. It is going to be so much fun and totally unique to Manitowoc! I can't wait!
My friend Tina Kugler who I have raved about before design the proposed logo that could not be more perfect. If you need a designer or illustrator for a project you should hire her.

Doing My Taxes Today.

I hate doing paperwork but I cannot put it off any longer so today is the day. My friend Annette is working so I can do them uninterrupted.
So I didn't really find anything cool on my walk this morning and I won't be making anything except spreadsheets so no real pictures. I did however open my etsy shop last Friday and here's one of my pendants I put on there. Have a happy day!

Happy Mother's Day

Wishing all the moms out there a happy mother's day! We had a nice relaxing day that we were able to spend with both moms and my grandma. I love my mom so much. I am so lucky to have such a fun woman to call mom. She has always been there for me and since having my daughter has helped us out so much with her. I never really understood how very much she sacrificed for me until my little Molly came into the world. Thanks for all you do and all you are mom...I love you. I am also very fortunate to have a wonderful mother in law who I thank for raising my husband into the wonderful man he is.

Sorry I played hookie yesterday!

So I was supposed to open yesterday for my first Tuesday for the warm weather hours but I totally skipped out! But it was very worth it..I spent the day, you guessed it, thrifting with my mom. We had lots of fun. St Vinnies in Green Bay just freaking ROCKS. I got so much great stuff! Here's a small list...about 10 beer glasses..pabst, Schlutz, Red White and Blue all the great bad beers, funky dishes for mosaics, a few chairs to paint for the chair auction, some fantastic vintage patterns, a few great kids books including a little Dick and Jane type book :), and a bunch of other cool stuff.
After Vinnies we went to Ralphs Antiques on Main Street in Green Bay. Holy Macaroni does that man have stuff! He was a super sweet old guy who gave me some good deals. I got the best old game there with these fantastic letter tiles that I am going to make into pendants today. Here's the loot from Ralph----->
I got some cute Victorian looking stamps and war ration books there too. It was loads of fun but visual overload for sure.
We ate lunch at the Urban Frog on Broadway. It was good but a little intimidating. It was very contemporary which I love but it was ultra organic and hip and made me feel all frumpy and out of place. Guess it just made me realize that in the future when or if I ever open a little diner I would want it to be cozier rather than contemporary. Don't get me wrong it was really good and fairly priced I just wasn't terribly comfortable. I think it would be worth a try if you are in the area just try to look really cool that day.
We ended the day at our local Repeat Performance and Goodwill thrift store where we found a few goodies including a very fun card table tablecloth and of course a few more books. I have definitely decided I need to get that etsy store going and sell some of this great ephemera I am finding and hoarding! Watch for it!
Have a splendid day! I am going to make some pendants now!
