Great Wall of Tomato!!!

This is crazy. My tomato plants have taken over. There is going to be a whole lotta sauce being made in the Geiser house this year! Can't wait for these babies to ripen. We have black, pink, yellow plum, Mr Stripey, and regular and cherry tomatoes. It is going to make a beautiful tomato basil salad...which is right in front of the wall of tomatoes. Good stuff.
Also worked on some domino doodle pendants recently. Just a few sharpies, white dominoes and rumikin pieces and a little dremmel action and you have these fun little original art pendant, keychain, wine charm....whatever you want them to be. I am thinking the aliens will be a big hit at Sputnikfest...which by the way is September 11 & 12 and you should go.

SPUTNIKFEST!!!!

Sarah's lovely frocks thanks to my sister Kelly...they won 3rd place!!!
The great crowd. There were thousands!!! Thanks everyone for coming! The art fair was so much fun and so eclectic. The festival goers really enjoyed the great selection of arts and crafts. One of the artists also won the tin foil costume contest!!! Just fun stuff!
Molly and Kevin aliens.
A little cutie with her new friend.
The Miss Space Debris ladies. It was a tough decision to pick a winner here. The lovely lady wearing the pink boots was the winner.

Thanks to everyone who made this very fun new event a huge success! It was just an all around wonderful day here in Manitowoc and it would never have happened without the hard work of dozens of wonderful community minded people! Barb Bundy Jost is a true superstar of this community! A huge thank you to all of the staff at the Rahr West Museum. Without you this crazy little idea would have never become the out of this world fun event it did. I am so looking forward to the future of Sputnikfest! If you were there let me know what you liked about it and even maybe what you didn't...let's make Sputnikfest 2009 even better!!!!

Friday August 15th...be here or be square!

Because my good friend Tina (or go here for her professional blog) is having her virginal solo show of her totally fantastic illustration art and the unveiling of her fab Sputnikfest poster (featuring that hot little number above). She had a limited number of them printed and will be signing them just for you. She is so super talented and I am honored to show her work at Persimmons. So come on Friday...we will be here 6-9 selling posters and Tina's other great stuff!

Hi.

I was thinking this morning how neglectful I have been of my poor little blog and how I need to really get back into regular posting but then I started to think about things I blog about and I haven't been doing much of those things either. With Sputnikfest right around the corner...how did that happen...I haven't really made many things or had a whole lot of time to do some good treasure hunting. Sure I have made some little things here and there but it has been a good long while since I have sat down in my studio and had a few hardcore days of letting my creativity go. I miss it and look forward to the fall when I can do it again.

Makes me feel a little like this woman looks. I would list this picture in my etsy shop cheapoldcrap but I don't have time...too busy!

Artta This World.

Are you an artist or fun and funky crafter living in Wisconsin? If you are you should apply to be in this totally different fun new show. It is going to be on Saturday September 6th in conjunction with the totally wacky tacky Sputnikfest. We are closing down North 8th Street in Manitowoc and you will set up just one short block away from the impact site (A hunk o Sputnik landed in the street in 1962). The booth fee is just $50 and the beautiful thing about this show is that we encourage artisans who do a variety of things to join. I have always had a problem with shows because I do so many different types of things and cannot categorize myself into one medium. We are also going to have fun art wars all day to keep in the Sputnikfest mode and will have prizes for best in show in both fine art and funky art categories. It is going to be a great show and Sputnikfest has already gotten some national attention so it should also be a very well attended show!
So if you haven't applied yet go to www.sputnikfest.com and download the form. The show is juried and the deadline to get your application is July 15...which isn't so far away so get that application in today!!

Tagged so here it goes.

I was tagged by the great Melissakate straight out of New York. I have never met Melissakate but living in Wisconsin makes anyone who lives in New York instantly cool plus she has a really nice blog.

So I guess the rules are that I have to link her...done....and then post the rules and these are them...list six quirky facts about moi...tag 6 others with links to their blogs...let them know they have been tagged. Well she informed us that there is an old Aztec curse bestowed on all who do not comply with the rules so I am risking that curse and skipping the tagging others part. I think I am pretty gutsy ain't I?

1. I didn't kiss a boy until I was 19 and it was horrible.

2. I make something creative every single day of my life and if I don't I get a little out of whack.

3. I am the president of an art group, the vice president of a downtown association, and one of the founding leaders and workerbee's of a new festival in my community...SPUTNIKFEST. Plus run a brick and mortar all by my self (sometimes Annette helps out) and have a three year old. So I guess you could say I am busy.

4. I love playing in the dirt in my gardens. Can't wait for this....

5. I can't shop at Goodwill anymore because I got in a fight there once.

6. I like beer.

Now bring on the curse....

Daffodillies for all.

So I bought some daffodils yesterday and when we got home Molly looked at the closed blooms and said "Mama what are those?" with a weird look on her face. I said "they are flowers." She replied "yuck they are ugly" and even flicked one of them. I told her "they may not be too pretty now but wait until tomorrow" to which she stuck her nose in the air and walked away from the ugly things. Well well well this morning she woke up and we were on our way to the bathroom when she gasped so loud I thought she was choking. I looked at her and she was amazed and pointing at the vase on the counter. I said "see I told you" and she said "oh mama those are the most beautiful flowers ever!" and ran over to smell them. It made me think that when I saw them all opened this morning I had that same reaction (only inside my head) and thought we would spread that joy. It was snowing so it was the perfect day to go buy more and give them to people I appreciate so we did. We gave some to Nancy at the coffee shop next door, My buds at the greatest little wrap shop downtown (which by the way is where you can get the most amazing chai tea ever), my good friends Kate and Heather, all the girls at the museum who have been working hard at putting together Sputnikfest and then to my friend Annette. Making people feel happy makes me feel happy so it was a fun day. I can't wait until the flowers start blooming so we can pick some and do that all the time. Oh by the way Annette just opened her etsy shop so stop on over and give her some love.

Feel free to print this picture I took of a daffodil and hang it up. They are instant happy feeling flowers. If I could I would give you a real one. Happy day to you!

More Sputnikfest.

Wow what a blog slacker I have been this week.

The new Sputnikfest tshirt arrived this week. This is the design and it is just on the front of the white tshirt. They are only $18 and all proceeds will go to Wisconsin's wackiest tackiest festival of all time. They are available at the Rahr West Museum right now and will be on the website very very soon. Of course you can always contact me and I will be sure to get one for you. There are actually a lot of new forms on the Sputnikfest website so go check it out now! You can register for the art fair, Miss Sputnikfest, or even download the donation form and become a partner in all this fun. Imagine how cool your friends will think you are when you are listed as a partner in this crazy event!

We are also going to be making these into tshirts....

Tina Kugler is an amazing artist and you should hire her if you need an illustrator. Her and her equally talented husband Carson own this little building right around the corner from me so if you are in the market for some commercial property you should check it out. Manitowoc rocks so it would be worth moving here for.

My friend Chris just plain ROCKS.

Super Duper busy week.

So I have a crazy busy week going here already. The Fall Art Tour is starting with a reception here on Friday night 6-9 so I have to get ready for that and then the tour continues on Saturday where I will be demonstrating ATC's and letting people make their own for FREE! Then close promptly at 4 run upstairs get pretty and head to the Rahr for the chair auction! So before then I have to clean everything and do all the pre auction prep stuff (with the lovely Heather and other art and about members) I also had a Sputnikfest meeting this morning that really got me excited all over again for that not that I ever wasn't excited but other things took priority for a little time there. That festival is going to rock so hard. Then I meet for a downtown meeting Thursday that will also make me think about another thing that needs to be done. Just breathe Kim.........so I may not post here for a bit but don't worry I will be back in full force next week and hopefully have time for daily posts again!

I haven't made really anything lately due to that lack of time but I did squeeze these in yesterday. They are cookie press pins...cute huh...and only $3!!! You need one.

Sooooooooooooooooo Busy!!!!!

So I am using my husbands computer for this post so sorry..no pictures. I couldn't really post any pictures that would really have anything interesting about today anyway. I did a whole lotta running around today trying to sell a really good idea for a fundraiser for our downtown association. We are going to make a i heart manitowoc button sell it for $3 and then if you wear your button for Oktoberfest on October 6 you can get a good deal or maybe even something for free at participating businesses. I think it's fun...buy a cool pin that you will be proud to wear and get a deal...what more could you ask for? So after I talked to a few businesses about that I came back and got ready for the Sputnikfest meeting. It was a good meeting. We talked about lots of the legal stuff which wasn't fun but necessary. We talked about a lot of really great fun stuff to so it far outweighed the icky legal stuff. I do have a lot to do tomorrow though! Hopefully I will have time to blog but if not I will be back in full blogging mode in a few days!

$1 for Devo.

A little shadowbox collage piece I am working on....

Today was pretty fun. I had my little gal today so I decided to take the afternoon off and be with her without having to say no don't touch that 100 times. Persimmons is a very tempting place for a 2 year old. So we went to eat Chinese for lunch. Now we live right by a Chinese place and I love love love the smell of the garlicy oniony greasy nummieness and I crave it often just from that smell but every single time I actually eat it I get sick. When will I learn? After lunch we went to the zoo. We have a great little zoo right on the river here in Manitowoc. It is not huge but has a nice selection of animals and it is FREE. We really like the prairie dogs. Those things are so darned cute! I have pictures but I am too lazy to go and get my camera cord that is downstairs right now so tomorrow. We went to mom's after so Molly could nap and I ended up falling asleep myself. I can't even remember the last time I took a nap. It was nice.

We met tonight for Sputnikfest. It wasn't a huge turnout but we did have a productive meeting. The one thing I can't get over is the price that Devo asks to perform. The festival is going to be a crazy fun unique event so we wanted a headliner band that fit that bill. Well they ask $100,000!!!! EKKKKK. It got us talking and the very creative Barb Bundy Jost came up with the idea of doing a fund raiser $1 for Devo. Love it. So we will see what is going to happen there. We could settle for Georgia Satellites...they run under $10,000.

Well the battery on my laptop is running out so I got to go for now! Have a great night.

Sputnik on the brain

Busy getting ready for our next Sputnikfest meeting at the Rahr West next Wednesday July 18th. We kind of put the meetings on hold for a month and now it's time to get going on planning and making some fun stuff happen. After talking to some artists at Art Vs Craft in Milwaukee last weekend and making a few contacts with some media people it renewed my excitement for the festival! I can't wait to start the fundraising stuff and just get this thing going! I will for sure keep you updated on what will be happening because you will want to come! By the way it is September 5 & 6 2008...mark your calendars!

Drove all the way (he he) to Two Rivers this morning and the lake was so freakin beautiful today I wanted to play hookie and just sit by the water but I didn't. I did go and get a yummy coffee at Stumpjack and a delish bluberry muffin. I'm thinking that may be a usual Friday thing from now on.
